From the Desk of Lon Hird:

Are We There Yet?

This phrase has been spoken by every child on every trip ever traveled. Parents have worked long and hard to come up with answers to satisfy these inquiries from road weary young travelers, but invariably parents come back to the old stand-by:
“It won’t be long now.”

Having traveled a long and difficult economic road over the last 18 months or so, even the most experienced among us is starting to ask this age old question. We are all looking for signs that this stretch of rough road is near its end.

Fortunately, we are starting to see some of those signs! Now these signs are not yet promising economic bliss, but at least some of the gloom and doom rhetoric is subsiding. In the weeks preceding this writing, we have heard the Federal Government announce that the recession is over, and that the economy is starting to grow again. We are seeing auto manufacturers reactivate factories and the housing market starting to rebound. With these bedrock industries showing positive signs, I think it’s time to dust off the old stand-by and say:
“It won’t be long now.”
