The Outpatient Medical Coding and Billing Program is a competency based approach to training. An expanding healthcare system and constantly changing regulations have created a thriving industry for medical coders and billers. The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that the Medical Coding and Billing field will increase by 18 percent through 2016, which is a higher rate of growth than the average for other occupations. Many smaller clinics and offices combine their coding and billing positions, and an increased understanding of billing procedures and processes makes our graduates highly marketable and employable. It provides medical coders with the precise knowledge and skills they need to succeed. This program consists of exercises designed to teach and reinforce critical coding skills such as medical terminology and interactive chart review. Students will learn coding protocols and will code hundreds of medical records in all major specialties. Our curriculum includes the Introduction and Program Orientation, Technology & the Medical Professional, Learning & Mastering Medical Terminology, Documentation, Confidentiality & Ethics, Evolution of Coding in the Healthcare Environment, Healthcare Structure & Organization, Human Anatomy, Exploring Pharmacology, Preparing for ICD-9, Medical Record Content, ICD-9-CM, Preparing for MPC, Exploring Healthcare Reimbursement, Medical Procedural Coding, and Medical Procedural Coding & Skills Testing for Outpatient.
